Brain Wave
Brain waves are created by the neural activity of a brain. They can be measured using an EEG.
Dendrites of cerebral neurons generate brain waves.
Types of Brain Waves
Alpha Waves
Alpha waves (or the alpha rhythm of brain waves) are associated with a relaxed state of alertness. They have a frequency of about 9-12 per second.
Strangely enough, they also seem associated with the pre-sleep stage.
Beta Waves
Beta waves (or the beta rhythm of brain waves) are present during active, waking consciousness. They have a lower amplitude and higher frequency than alpha waves.
Delta Waves
Delta waves (or the delta rhythm of brain waves) are present in Stage 3 of sleep.
Theta Waves
Theta waves (or the theta rhythm of brain waves) are present in Stage 1 of sleep.
