Christian Wolff
Christian Wolf (1679–1754) popularized (and possibly invented) the term psychology. This marked the first great advance in psychology.
He divided psychology into two sub-types: empirical and rational psychology.
Empirical psychology dealt with information and knowledge gained through experience when rational psychology dealt with information and knowledge gained through reason.
