ENFP

As an ENFP you are awesomely awesome. Or you really suck. There is no inbetween.

You're also crazy! (no matter what).

Profile

The Good

ENFP's are enthusiastic, inspiring, fun, reckless, and are genuinely interested in people. While in their good phase they have an almost supernatural ability to relate to people and determine their motivations.

ENFP's have a insatiable appetite for life and live it with gusto.

The Bad

ENFP's who find themselves in a situation where they are unable to discover and enjoy new people and things tend to get whiny. Really whiny. And manipulative. And possibly passive aggressive. We won't admit to anything. You saw nothing.

Interpretive

ENFP's are changelings. As they constantly come in contact with new ideas, they change.

ENFP's require a constant stimulating flow of ideas and experiences.

Dominant Function

The dominant function of ENFP's (and their brothers the ENTP) is Extroverted Intuition, which makes them damn near psychic. :)

ENFP's use their Ne to gain insights on the motivations of people and deduce new insights on the fundamental nature of the universe.

Relationships

As an ENFP, you should be very aware of the NT/NF Death Spiral. It can completely derail the life of an ENFP.

Love

ENFP's rarely have long-term relationships even though they are searching for "the one." The difficulty stems from the fact that ENFP's jump in, while many other personality types won't — even though they want to.

When an ENFP does fall in love, the ENFP falls in love completely head over heels — damn the torpedos! The best illustration of this is possibly the video for the song "Love Rollercoaster" by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

ENFP's fall in love with people they find fascinating.

Love Matches

INFJ

The ENFP / INFJ pairing is legendary among MBTI forums.

It seems only an INFJ can inspire an ENFP to give up his or her "life of crime."

INTJ

ENFP's also get along with INTJ's.

Unlike the INFJ, the INTJ seems to be more of a cohort.

Facets of the Diamond

Inspiration

ENFP's inspire and motivate people.

"Early in life I learned that I was a firestarter. When I learned that I could light fires of passion I became a pyromaniac. Nothing is more important than the consuming fire burning in your heart. It shines from within and lights the way to where you were meant to be. Beauty is the light of passion. Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the glow of the passion for life nor a painting more captivating than the artist's expression of his own passion for what he paints. I am a bright blue electric spark in the night, a struck match flaring to life. I start little fires all around me, spreading the fire and light of vital existence like ripples in the ocean. This is my cause, my purpose, my reason. Being a firestarter is how I make a difference. My greatest desire is to set the world on fire." — Shawn Hartnell

Leadership

ENFP's only make good leaders if these conditions are true :

  • The project needs inspiration.
  • The project is new and exciting and pushes the edge of what is possible.
  • The ENFP has reliable people to smack him / her.
  • The project has enough manpower so that the ENFP doesn't get bogged down.

ENFP's make great firestarters, but terrible leaders.

Risk Taking

ENFP's love to roll the dice and sometimes are quite stupid about it. Risk taking is thrill-seeking for ENFP's. While the ENTP is a risk taker, the ENTP will take a risk for gain — an ENFP does it for the pure thrill.

It seems as though you have only met a few ENFP's and quite possibly only on the internet.

"ENFP's who find themselves in a situation where they are unable to discover and enjoy new people and things tend to get whiny. Really whiny. And manipulative. And possibly passive aggressive. We won't admit to anything. You saw nothing."

I think I may know what your saying, but to those who don't understand MBTI, this is quite narrow and can be said for many other types (ESFPs, ESFJs, ENFJs, etc). Also, it puts a smear on ENFPs as I know many ENFPs who do not need to strive to be in constant interaction and when they want interaction, they get it. Not because they are whiney. Not because they are manipulative. Not because they are passive-aggressive. They get it because people generally LIKE to hang around with an ENFP. Rarely will an ENFP find themselves in the situation were they cannot have interaction. And it doesn't have to be "new people and things".

"The dominant function of ENFP's (and their brothers the ENTP) is Extroverted Intuition, which makes them damn near psychic. :)"

That would be Ni (Extroverted Intuition) that is "damn near psychic". Ne is quite different.

"ENFP's love to roll the dice and sometimes are quite stupid about it. Risk taking is thrill-seeking for ENFP's. While the ENTP is a risk taker, the ENTP will take a risk for gain — an ENFP does it for the pure thrill."

Once again, this can describe many other types (more specifically SP's in general). And even if this where true you are once again incorrect about the ENFP/ENTP risk taking business.

John Lennon was an INFP. Gandhi may have been an ENFP. Also to try to figure out any types musical tastes or use musical tastes to describe a type blurs a non-MBTI readers understanding of MBTI even more so. MBTI describes decision making, not behavior, interests, etc. Some things can be generally correct however to understand the system in it's truest sense you must understand that it is all about the decision making. Thats is why the J/P can make such a difference in types (ENFJ - Fe, NI, Se, Ti vs ENFP - Ne, Fi, Te, Si). The functions pivot around that J/P. Once this is understood you may delve deeper into what the system may imply. Otherwise, don't smudge the MBTI system more than it's already been smudged.

Ni is the shadow state of Ne and derpa derpa derpa really you mean all 16 profiles in the MBTI can have similariies-ZOMG what an amazing and non obvious thing to post OTI!

You lose 1000 Internets for being such a bad rep for ENFPs-you sound more like a INTJ anyway you snob

That was hilarious. I have rarely seen such trite and erroneous nonsense. Sounds like you've an axe to grind. Either that or you are just a nasty person.

has shown me to be a ENFP, years ago I tested to be INTP…maybe I've slipped back or grown, depending on how you look at things…I do know that I am crazy and have been told so…but…it has kept me from going insane…most of what is written here is true…but…so is the INTP, which makes me question the stability of the test when environment plays such a big factor, the N and the P are dominant, I guess, maybe I ought to look into those factors to determine whether I've grown or shrunk…and…true to type, it's all for fun…enjoyed the page, Thanks

Whoever wrote this clearly has issues with the ENFP type then worrying about presenting an accurate account on it.

^forget the "derp derp herp DERPA DERPA DEERRRRP!!!" of the crankypants ENFP Annon's above I think it's a good little soundbite of ENFP's…I've just gotten ENFP yet again for the 6th or so completely different test-all done in different states of mind (read: intoxication) with many year+ gaps between each test…I also got INTP once when I was in a lot more anxious/depressed state of mind…
This little impression has reminded me of why I've been approaching some current projects the way I am..
